Enfield Town 5 U10 Girls 9

Scorers ; Krystal 7, Ciara, Natasha.

The U10s played their first competitive match in The CGL Cup on Saturday. Despite the frost overnight the small 5 a side pitches at Chase Lodge were surprisingly playable. A good turnout of 8 girls (Chloe, Ciara, Jayme, Keighley, Krystal, Natasha, Roopjot & Yahvi) on a very cold morning meant we needed to make frequent substitutions. Yahvi agreed to take the gk gloves for the first half and we were ready to go.

The girls got off to the best possible start when Krystal scored in the first minute. We had several chances to extend our lead but couldn’t manage to convert them. However Enfield were good opposition and put us under pressure in turn. We were 10 minutes in before Krystal doubled the lead. 3 minutes later it was three as she completed an early hat trick.

Her unjust reward was to come off for a spell as we completed our first set of substitutions. Unfortunately this handed the initiative back to our opponents and they came back strongly making it 3-2 within a minute. We did not allow our heads to drop and Ciara restored a two goal cushion direct from a well struck corner. Enfield came back again and made it 4-3 then 4-4 with almost the last kick of the half.

We told the girls not to be despondent at half time and pointed out that our numbers would be a benefit n the second half. Yahvi, who was not at fault for any of the Enfield goals, came out of goal as planned and Chloe took over from her.

Our second half performance was dominant and another 4 goals from Krystal, who was superb throughout, saw us race into a 8-4 lead before Enfield pulled one back after a scramble in our goal area. Natasha capped the win with a fine goal towards the end. Dave had to apologise to Roop, Keighley and Yahvi for messing up his timings in the second half and not getting them back on before the end of the half.

It was almost impossible to select Girl of The Match but we decided to share it between Yahvi & Chloe for good performances both in goal and on field.

This win takes us into the semi-final of the league cup.
