Match report – Under 14W team win the Mike Keen Memorial Cup

Ruislip Rangers U14W  1 – 0  Chinnor Youth

Mike Keen Memorial Cup Final, Sunday 30 April 2017, 5:00pm KO. Flackwell Heath FC, Wilks Park

Fittingly for a cup final, this was a closely contested game in front of a crowd of just under 100 people. The team thoroughly deserved to win their first major honour as they fought hard and showed great character.

Chinnor were the better team for the first 5 minutes. But once Rangers settled into the game, they began to assert themselves. They started creating chances and did well taking away Chinnor’s threats. Kamaal had the first chance when he rounded the keeper but shot wide. The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when the keeper could not hold onto Sean’s crisply hit shot from just inside the area.

Rangers continued to work hard in the second half. Chinnor found it hard coping with the pace of Jerome and Kamaal going forward. The best opportunity for Rangers to make the game safe came when Aaron ran down the left to the byeline and put a beautiful cross into the box but noone was able to get a head on the ball. The key moment in the second half came when Ryshub made a brilliant and brave save to keep Rangers in the lead. The last part of the half was tense as players picked up knocks and were suffering with tired legs, but Rangers managed to see the game out.

The celebrations of the players at the final whistle reflected the joy and the relief that the boys felt from finally winning the cup.
