Ruislip Rangers Under 13W  3 – 2  Holmer Green Under 13

Sunday 15 May 2016, Kings College Fields

Needing a point to stay up against the top team in the league, Rangers pulled off possibly their best performance ever in 8 years as a team.

Following an early period of Rangers dominance, Holmer Green took the lead with their first attack of the game. It didn’t last for long, though, because Jerome made it level when he used his speed to get onto a through ball and knocked it past the keeper. Soon after Rangers took the lead when they were awarded a penalty for handball and Jerome tucked it home. Holmer Green luckily made it all-square just before the half when a high ball somehow bounced into the corner.

Rangers weren’t going to be denied, though. They totally outplayed the first-placed team in the division by playing some lovely football and fighting for every ball. There were times when you thought the deserved win might not come. Holmer Green hit the bar and their keeper made a wonderful save from a volley by Flynn. But with just 3 minutes to go, the winner came. Jerome hit a shot from distance which the keeper got his hands to but the ball still went in. Huge celebrations and a sense of relief followed. They left it late but they did it in style.
