The story of the route our Under 14As team took to reach this Sunday’s County Cup Final

U14 County Cup Final – Ruislip Rangers Under 14A vs Hampton Youth

  • Sunday 2nd April, 2pm KO
  • Northwood FC, Northwood Park, Chestnut Avenue, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 1HR

John Gowen, Manager:

We first starting working with and coaching this team in the spring of 2007. The plan was to organise 50 boys into 3 teams who would all represent Ruislip Rangers. I had far less grey hair and Dave Quinn was a good few pounds lighter. The core of this team is still together.

We are playing Hampton Youth who knocked us out in the first round stage of the cup last year, so we know this will be a tough final.

The boys are delighted to get to the County Cup Final as it’s the pinnacle of youth football.

The campaign started with a match against our ‘B’ team. The game was a close run affair with us scoring some late goals to come out 6-1 winners.

The second round pitched us against W4 Youth Rangers where early goals helped the boys to a 6-0 victory.

The third round set us up against last year’s County Cup finalists, Harlesden Hawks. Rangers came from 2-1 down and in the last minute Tom Quinn chipped the keeper to win 3-2. Coaches Mick Woulfe and Adrian Doona voted this as the highlight of the qualifying campaign.

Round 4 was a trip to Hampstead Stags. Teddy Williams scored the perfect hat trick and the boys won 6-0.

The quarter final placed us against Tottenham’s Park View Rangers. The boys came from one down to win 3-1.

We were drawn against Ashford Town Colts in the semi-final. Rangers were 3-0 up at half time but Ashford fought back superbly to 3-2. Charlie Amasanti scored the fourth to finish the tie off and the boys won 4-2.

Our message to the boys is to continue playing their good football and not to let the occasion get to them.

Good luck boys.
