BGFL Cup Semi-Final
Ruislip Rangers Clarets 2 Wycombe Saints 1
Goalscorers Aurela, Becky 1
GOMs Paige, Evie Mc.

League Champions last week, Semi-Finalists this. Could we make it to the final ? Read on….
We always have tough matches against Wycombe, who seem to get better every time we play each other. A bit of bad luck before we even kicked off Eve Singleton had to sit out the whole match & Reanna was caught in traffic so we started with the bare bones. However not a bad start with a few players playing out of position but we settled down well and started taking the game to Wycombe. A couple of lovely passes from Angie to Becky, who was anticipating the passes and beating her defender to the ball before crossing into the Wycombe area for some one to latch onto.

It was from one of these moves that Aurela did get on the end of and finished it Wycombe came back at us, getting more and more possession in the midfield, but our defence of Millie Evie Paige and Issy were holding them at bay, containing them to only a couple of half chances that Lili dealt with. Right at the end of the first half it looked like they had broken through our defence on the half way line only for the ref to blow the whistle for half time.

Second half more of the same – lots of midfield ball and the better chances falling to us but Wycombe’s keeper was in excellent form. That was until Becky cut inside her defender and hit a superb volley up and over the keeper to make it 2-0. Perhaps we could relax a bit now ? Think again! From a Wycombe corner the ball not being cleared and coming back into the penalty area. Lets just say a bit of an own goal really. Unfortunate but life is never easy.

Backs to the wall with special mention to Reanna, who was really concerned about playing as a defender, but sometimes it has to be done – swapping positions around and, I have got to say, she did a great job. There is always a moment in a game when the match angs in the balance and it needs a positive tackle. Angie, Evie and Mille plus a lot of collective encouragement started to swing it back in our favour. We managed to relieve the pressure by launching a few attacks ourselves with Abi hitting the post and the keeper making a great save from Abi’s shot from the rebound. We limited Wycombe to another couple of half chances which were dealt with by Farren, our goalie for the second half.

2-1 was the final result with our girls really digging deep and scrapping for everything. Wycombe pushed us all the way and gave us a really tough match. So another Ruislip Rangers Girls team make it to a finals day. Fingers crossed we are all successful !
