U14 Girls win their BGFL Semi-Final

U14 Girls 2 Chesham United 1
Scorers Amy & Beatriz

Following the Easter break, we returned to action at a neutral venue in Aylesbury for this cup semi with Chesham. Although we hadn’t played them this season we had been involved in closely fought games in the past so we were well prepared for another keenly contested encounter.

The ground that the pitch was on was quite hard and also with a blustery wind blowing it made for quite difficult conditions.

There was a lot of endeavour from our girls in the first half but we lacked a bit of composure. Our best chances came from corners and set pieces but unfortunately we were unable to apply the finishing touch on several occasions. We were largely in control although Niamh pulled off a decent double save just prior to the break.

We pressed a lot higher up the pitch in the 2nd half. Again we looked dangerous from corners. We finally took the lead when Annabel’s long throw was flicked on by Hayley for Amy to finish from close range. It was no more than we deserved at that point.

We started to settle and play some good football. The forwards were finding space and we started to pass the ball with more assurance. Hayley and Beatriz were excellent in Midfield, both covering a tremendous amount of ground.

Beatriz hit the bar before we eventually got a 2nd. Amy’s corner was met by Grace with a header that the goalie somehow kept out but only for Beatriz to tap in the rebound.

We could’ve had a few more and defensively we hadn’t really looked in too much trouble until we let in a bit of a comical one right on full time. It made for a bit of a nervy few seconds but we held out fairly comfortably and we now have a final to look forward to.

Well done girls.

GOM: Beatriz
