Despite not reaching the heights of the previous week, Ruislip continued their fine start to the season with this hard earned victory. Ruislip started slowly as they initially struggled to adapt to the small pitch and the long grass and the early exchanges were fairly even. But led by some strong ball carrying from Remi Ogunbayo and Finn Edwards, slowly but surely Ruislip began to gain territorial advantage. With the ball now spending more and more time in the Aylesbury box, it was no great surprise when the visitors opened the scoring as Ryan Morgan latched onto a loose ball in the 6 yard area to bundle home after 18 minutes. Ruislip sensed a chance to take the game away from the home side by half time but their finishing lacked a clinical edge and they went into the break with the slenderest of leads.
However 4 minutes after the restart, Ruislip doubled their money as Ogunbayo swivelled in the box and although his left foot swing was more in hope than expectation the ball dropped neatly into the corner. Within 60 seconds it was 3-0 when Charlie Coshall reacted quickest to Harrison Deas’ long throw to fire high into the net.
That quick fire brace seemed to all but seal a comfortable away win but on 43 minutes, for the first time in the game, Ruislip switched off defensively and the lead was down to 2. This could have been cut even further just 2 minutes later but the linesman’s flag reprieved some more defensive uncertainty. This was the moment where any potential comeback stalled as Ruislip settled down and added 2 further goals through a fine Coshall effort and a deserved reward for Edwards whose goal bound header went in off a defender.
Not a perfect performance by any means but it’s a good sign that 9 different players have got on the scoresheet in the opening 2 league matches.
MoM Finn Edwards – some fine driving runs from midfield helped grab the initiative and he is showing signs of becoming a real goal threat.
