Middlesex County Cup, 2nd Round
Ruislip made sure that there was no hint of a giant killing as they ruthlessly disposed of their opponents from the 3rd tier of the Harrow League. It took only 4 minutes for the home side to get the ball rolling as Lennox Kedman easily finished off some fine approach play by Lewis Crowley. In fact, Kedman had a field day early on and had completed his hat-trick before the 10 minute mark with his deft chip for the second being the pick of the bunch. It was 5-0 at the break as further goals from Eli Soque, his first competitive goal for the club, and Mark Webb underlined Ruislip’s superiority. In truth it should have been more as both Soque and Webb found the woodwork when it looked easier to score.
The 2nd half script was much the same as Ruislip pushed forward in search of goals and within 10 minutes Soque had completed his hat-trick with 2 close range strikes. Webb grabbed his second with a fierce drive but the real story was whether Charlie Coshall was ever going to score again. Without a goal for a few weeks he looked to be having ‘one of those days’ again as chance after chance either went narrowly wide or was blocked by the keeper. With 10 minutes left, the hard working frontman fashioned another chance for himself but again his effort was beaten away by the keeper although this time it went straight to Omari Reynolds who had the easiest of tasks to open his account for the club. However two minutes later, just when it looked like he’d had enough and was close to putting a noose around his neck, Coshall got the goal he deserved as he curled in a lovely effort from the edge of the box to make it 10-0. Ruislip were now running riot, Remi Ogunbayo made it 11 with a smart finish before Harrison Deas got in on the act for number 12. Coshall, now remembering how to do it, scored again and Reynolds helped himself to another tap-in before Coshall scored his third and fourth in the dying moments. Amazingly after weeks of frustration, he had notched 4 times in 8 minutes and the team as a whole had found the net an incredible 8 times in the final 10 minutes!
This was far from a perfect performance as it would’ve been good to see more passing out from the back but a job was there to be done and Ruislip certainly took care of business today.
MoM Charlie Coshall – had a hand in a number of goals before his incredible finale. Proved that if you keep working hard then the luck will turn your way
