A tough start to the season for the U12 Girls. A new 9 a side format, a bigger pitch, a hot morning, no substitutes and a big turnover in players in the off-season. We also drew the short straw in facing Harvesters Blue, formerly King George, who did the treble last season. Harvesters were/are a very good side and have added more good players to their squad during the summer. The match was played in a good, competitive spirit but ultimately the difference between the two teams proved too much for Ruislip. We rode our luck in defence some of the time, and in reality we didn’t create too many chances in Harvesters penalty area to threaten them. However if a result could have been awarded on effort put in, then Ruislip would have deserved at least a draw. Our new players, Mae-Ling, Larah, Erica and Katelyn, all had good debuts and the old guard of Captain Aimee, Aisling, Lily, Ella and the ever reliable Hannah in goal lead by example. If we learn our lessons from this game, work on our match fitness and work hard in training, then the only way is up. GOM was Larah for her sterling work in defence.’
