Phew! Rangers went from cruising at 4-0 up with 15 minutes to go, to frantically holding on following a three-goal onslaught from a brave and determined Beaconsfield side.
Rangers played well for much of the first half and went ahead after 12 minutes. Aidan cleverly flicked the ball to Kamaal who lofted a pass into the box. Josh did well to control the ball, beat the keeper and knock the ball in. Rangers had three other fantastic chances to score during the half but seemed to panic slightly when in front of goal.
The 1-0 scoreline was reminiscent of last week’s match against Hughenden and the second half started in a similar way to that match because the opposition came out very strongly. Beaconsfield had plenty of chances to score but shot wide on many occasions and hit the bar on one occasion. Slightly against the run of play, Rangers took a two-goal lead when Jerome crossed from the right and Aidan was on hand to knock the ball in to score his first-ever goal for Rangers. Mark made it 3-0 when he hit a low shot into the far corner from the right-hand edge of the box. Minutes later, Mark got his second of the match when he beat four players on the left-hand edge of the box and then hit a high shot into the far corner. What happened next could not have been predicted, though. Beaconsfield refused to give up and scored three goals in quick succession. At this point the only team likely to score seemed to be Beaconsfield. It was nail-biting stuff but, through determined defending and good goalkeeping, Rangers managed to hang on for the victory.
This result takes Rangers into fourth in the table with two games in hand.
