Goalscorers : Angie 3, Becky, Nicole, Stevie. GOM : Angie So only 1 competitive game in ten weeks. How rusty and lack lustre would we be ? The scoreline obviously tells you not a bit ! The most pleasing thing about the match was that, because of the lack of matches you have to rely on what you do at training and, full credit to Barry and the girls, we have been concentrating on getting the football out to the wings. In this game we certainly did this as all bar one of the goals coming from wing play. Please read on. The game, as feared, took a bit of time to settle down with it all looking a bit playground style at first. But then a lovely move with Angie beating a player, finding Becky who laid a lovely pass out to Stevie on the wing who then knocked it into the penalty area to Angie 1-0. That settled us down and up through the gears we went. Next was another pass out to the wing. This time it was Nicole who beat her defenders and crossed the ball into Stevie for 2-0. Angie then drifted out to the wing and found Becky in space who then blasted in a speculative shot 3-0. We were really dominating in midfield with Evie Mc., Mille and Issy always looking and finding our wide players Stevie and Nicole (Becky second half). Evie got the ball, shrugged off a couple of challenges and passed out to Nicole who then then crossed it in to Angie 4-0 The 5th goal was another great pass from Millie to the wing to Nicole who beat her player cut in and blasted in. 5-0 at Half time. The next goal was a solo Angie masterclass in the art of dribbling. A hot knife through butter probably describes the way she went through Moretenville and smashed in for the sixth. As far as goals go that was it. Although Aurela had her chances. She just didn’t have her shooting boots on but, as usual, was a bit of a handful for their defence. Another pleasing thing is our defensive displays are really solid. This time it was Issy and Millie left and right with Evie Mc just in front of them in the middle restricting the oppo to 3 chances all game which were routine saves for Lili (“mark goal side”) Davidson. Also they were always, where possible, not afraid to hold on to the ball and get a pass away. Plus a mention for Reanna who got injured early on and was struggling to find form up front so she played the last 10 mins as right back and did really well with a few important tackles going in. All in all a credit to the girls – probably one of our best footballing displays to date and really good to watch. A special mention to Moretonville who, in the second half restricted us to the one goal, shut up shop and never gave the game up and still took the game to us.
