On Saturday 7 June Ruislip Rangers U14A travelled to Mantes-la-Jolie located to the North West of Paris to represent Hillingdon in the FC Mantes78 U15’s summer tournament. The tournament took place at the Jean-Paul Davide stadium in the town and saw sixteen teams from across France, Germany and Algeria take part in an 11 a side format.
The quality of the football was excellent with fantastic technical ability on show, particularly from the Paris St-Germain U15 team. The Ruislip Rangers team gave a very good account of themselves winning their first match against Ezy-sur-Eure 1 – 0 , drawing their second match against FCMantes78 0 – 0, and winning the final group game against FC St Germain 2 – 0. Ruislip finished top of their group and were drawn against FC Versailles in the Quater Final match. A really tense game with few chances ended 0 – 0 and was decided on penalties. Unfortunately Ruislip Rangers went all English and couldn’t convert their spot kicks going out of the competition.
The tournament was won in the end by FC Mantes 78 who beat FC Versailles on penalties in the final. RR had faced both finalists and not been beaten in open play so took some comfort from the QF loss.
