Rangers knew they needed a win against one of the early front-runners to kick-start their season and that’s what they got. The pitch was heavy and uneven but Rangers still managed to play some of their best football of the season in this victory.
Both teams started strongly. Rangers created a few good chances but it was Wembley who took the lead in the 11th minute when their striker expertly lobbed a long through ball into the far corner. The equalizer came from Josh who hit a powerful shot from the left hand side of the area that gave the keeper no chance. Josh was involved again in the second. He never gave up in a tussle on the left. He came away with the ball and hit it across the goal for Niall to tap in. Wembley came close to equalizing just before the half.
Rangers came out really strongly in the second half. Jerome hit a wonderful high shot from outside the area to make it three. Practicing corners before the match paid dividends on two occasions. Connor hit a spectacular volley from one corner and then was in the right place to knock the ball in from a second corner. Josh made it six with a well-taken penalty after Mark was brought down in the area.
Every boy played their part in this match. Special mention should go to Daniel Stevens though who played his heart out and made some brave and outstanding tackles. Connor Thomas was brilliant when he went into central midfield. Beating Wembley in such emphatic style will get the rest of the division sitting up and taking notice – Ruislip Rangers are back and in contention for promotion with 11 games still to go.
