Another impressive performance by the girls saw them run out comfortable winners in this the 2nd of our initial grading matches vs Blisworth.
In a fairly dominant 1st half we took an early lead when Niamh’s goal kick was firstly flicked on by Hayley, nudged further down the line by Sophie for Lauren whose run and cross was swept home first time by Amy with her right foot. It was a lovely goal and it settled down the girls, who then went on to play some lovely passing football.
A second soon followed when Amy’s low corner was diverted into the goal by an unfortunate defender.
After a couple of scares, where Niamh was required to make a brave block and Caitlin cleared off of the line, we made the game safe with 2 more goals. Lauren came in off of the left wing to cut inside the defender and shoot into the corner. Then Hannah capped a very impressive display with a debut goal, firing home from inside the box.
4-0 HT
The second half was more even although we probably could have had a few more goals had we been more clinical. Grace worked tirelessly and was very unselfish in her passing. She was winning every 50/50 and very often the 40/60’s too!! Hayley was also working very hard and was constantly covering behind and snuffing out danger. Its work that often gets unnoticed but what was noticeable was how much more open we looked when I took her off for 10mins!!
We scored again after a corner was diverted onto the bar and Amy popped up to prod in the rebound. Lauren hit the post and also fired over. Sophie was also unfortunate with a shot that just flew over. We played some lovely one touch football which was nice to see.
We let in a bit of a soft goal when we were giving everyone a go which was disappointing but other than that the defence was solid. Annabel got in some good tackles and I was pleased to see her charging down a shot which we practiced during training. Elia was again very versatile, stylishly covering positions both in defence and midfield. Also Sophie, who played in defence, on the wings and as centre forward.
