U12B 6 – 2 Belmont United B

Sunday 12 October 2014, Kings College Field

Although it’s still very early in the season, this felt like a game which Rangers needed to win in order to be serious promotion contenders. And win they did, in emphatic style.

Tre Holmes opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a well-taken shot which flew over the keeper. But Belmont showed the kind of fighting spirit which we saw in the League Cup match a fortnight ago by grabbing a quick equalizer. A few minutes later Jerome Francis restored the lead when he hit a precise shot into the far corner following an attack down the right. Josh Lafferty made it three when he cut in from the right and hit a sweet, powerful shot which the goalkeeper had no hope of keeping out. Niall scored the goal of the game in the 19th minute when he scored from long range. Daniel Mullin made it five and Jerome got his second goal of the game following a goalmouth scramble.

Rangers ought to have gone on to score more in the second half. They played well but couldn’t increase the scoreline.
